“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
Such a powerful verse….. A verse I want my children to truly understand, learn and believe in. Last year, I attended my first homeschool conference and heard someone make a comment: If you want your children to truly love God, teach them the awesome power and love of God through Science! If they see the ‘awe’ of God, they will witness his beauty every day of their lives!
That statement made a profound impact on me and has made me mindful of what we use for science and how much time we spend with science, which is why I am so excited to not only review Young Explorer Series: Exploring Creation with Astronomy by Jeannie K. Fulbright, but also host a giveaway for the text and the notebook!
Exploring Creation with Astronomy is a fantastic science curriculum with 14 Lessons that can be taught/implemented using a two week schedule for each lesson. This allows you to go deeper with your children…and spend a little more time lingering on the subject as they grow in knowledge and truth. A guideline or recommended schedule is provided for you in the Notebooking Journal, as well as a detailed description in the text book explaining how to work the lessons between the reading, journaling and activities that are recommended.
I love the way Apologia explains narrations and notebooks. I am still new to notebooking and I generally shy away from things that I have to print off. I find it time-consuming and generally enjoy having things easily available and easy to understand. Because you can order the Notebooking Journal to go along with the book….and Apologia explains the notebooking process so well, I can see this as becoming the way our children will enjoy learning. (Notebooking will definitely help improve their writing skills, spelling and grammar! I love the overall process of notebooking, it’s the getting started that can be difficult!)
Apologia doesn’t stop there, though…they have included Latin Root Words to help children take their reading to a new level so they are able to truly begin understanding words throughout their school subjects.
A course website is also included. The site used for this book allows your children to view links that helps them ‘find things in the night sky for your area and the time that you are covering astronomy.’ Wow! I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed!!
Last, but not least….every lessons contains the hands-on projects, experiments/activities every child enjoys doing. After looking through the book, I see that I really missed out on a lot growing up! Science with experiments?! We did not really have the fun hands-on activities until high school…and by then, well, I did not love learning. Apologia has really made it easy to plan out your activities. Every lesson plan has a list of items necessary to complete the activities, etc right in the book! Most of the items will be right around your home…some may note…but all in all, they are, which reduces your cost and keeps running to the store at a bare minimum!

I have only used the Apologia Exploring Creation with General Science for my 7th grader. I was very impressed with the content and we loved the experiments!!! They weren’t hard but so much fun and interesting. It really brought a love of science to my daughter! Would love to try more. I have heard such wonderful things about apologia this year we are looking forward to starting a god based science curriculum in the fall I just learned about these books. Last year we would touch and go on science, but I wanted to find an EXCITING science curriculum that gets my son THRILLED to learn about not just science but GOD’s creation! I loved science growing up, but have such a desire to tie my relationship with Christ into it. I want to learn about and teach science from a Christian perspective! I am also overjoyed about the junior notebooks. As I am just beginning my homeschool journey-they will allow my little ones to be apart of it as well!

I enjoyed your review. My daughter used the Anatomy Notebooking Journal this year and we loved it! Wonderful projects that really reinforced her learning much more than just reading the text. We are just starting to add formal science currculum to our homeschool and have been looking at Apologia both Astronomy and Anatomy as possible programs.
