Mustard Seed Planting My Prayers for my Children

Mustard Seeds

Life changes

daily

proof of those changes come through…many different forms.

A knock at the door, phone calls, emails, you name it…we can learn about change…very quickly

One thing does not change…

What I desire for my children.

When I first became a Mom…I thought…OK, when they’re old enough, they will go to Sunday school, then off to regular school and then…then, I’ll have some time.

What I did not know, because I did not know God well…or his word….was this command:

6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Now, do not get me wrong.  I am not saying that the law has to be followed to get into Heaven.

No, I believe Jesus paid the price…and no works can gain our way into Heaven.

However, I do believe the word of God is truth and wisdom.

So, began our journey…to homeschool.

Our children had been in activities that ‘taught’ them scripture (ok,they memorized it to get a prize) and they attended ‘discipleship’ at church….and many other activities.

And…if your children do, GREAT

But, God gave US the command to teach our children

God gave Fathers…the responsibility to be the spiritual leader in their home.

So, we have made some major changes in our home.

and they are based on God’s word

as we learn more, as we grow closer to him, we pray for his guidance

for his direction for our home….

and me, this is what I pray…for my children.

These are my verses….and I have been blessed by them as I read through Ephesians with Good Morning Girls…

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Ephesians 6:6-9

One of my favorite verses is 3 John verse 4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” That is also my prayer for my children, that they would always be close to and rely on the Lord!

Thanks for sharing those verses from Ephesians, I’m learning and growing so much from the study so far!

Jenn, that is a great verse….truly ties in very well with this one!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!! Do you have any other favorites?

Hmm, you got me thinking! :) Another one I love is Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” It reminds me that I can do a lot to teach my children but it is the Holy Spirit who will truly bring their hearts to Christ.

THOSE are some of my favorite verses and prayers! I SO wanted to call you today, but I was ill with anxiety and couldn’t function. Thank you for always lifting us before the Throne. He heard your prayers and lifted me out of that pit in time to write my Seed! <3

Isn’t it amazing to see how different God’s plan can be from ours? Yet, His is always right. I am learning that (the hard way in some cases). Prayers to you, for our children, and families.

Robin, YES…and I have a secret to share with you…I usually don’t learn anything the easy way…..

These are the prayers that I have for my children as well, and it’s hard to remember that it starts with me. If I’m not in the Word, if I’m not sharing His commands and His love, then they will never learn it from me. And I’d much rather them learn it from their parents than from their Sunday School teachers.

Jennifer, So true…I have to be in the word….and be the main person (with my husband) to teach themby word and action!

I love those verses in Ephesians today. Something about “eyes of your heart” has really stuck with me.

    • MomRebecca January 25, 2012 7:45 pm #

Amanda, so true…..eyes of your heart….those take a deep meaning when you consider there only God can see into our heart, but until we allow him in to change it, our vision of the world is so clouded!

  7. Kathleen January 25, 2012 5:57 pm #

God is always faithful – even if we cannot see the fruit immediately with our own eyes. Great message.

    • MomRebecca January 25, 2012 7:46 pm #

So true, Kathleen, it isn’t very often I am able to see immediate fruit…in my heart or my children’s….but, over time…I do…

I love those verses that you shared. One of the verses I like is

    Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I know there have been a lot of changes around our house as well. God has definitely been working in our life, in how our children are taught. Definitely glad that He lead us to homeschool our children!

Joy, I LOVE that verse….and it is one of my favorites!!!! Thank you!!!!

Oh you’re speaking my heart! I would absolutely LOVE to literally WRAP our house with Deuteronomy 6! And the verses from Ephesians…and so many many more! Seriously, God’s word is truth, life, love, inspiration! Thank you for sharing this reminder of what God has called me to do – I needed it in the midst of a self-serving and very difficult week so far!
